5 Winter Hair Don’ts
The easiest way to get off track with your hair health is to use products that aren’t properly protecting your hair. What worked in the warm summer months might not protect your curls as we get into sub-zero temperatures. To keep on living your best curl life, read on for the hair don’ts to stay away from.
1. Washing Excessively
As the months get colder, you’ll notice that your curls will tend to be more dry. Excessive shampooing will only strip your strands more. Make a switch to your wash routine by using a co-wash instead. Our Curl Immersion line has both a No Lather and a Low Lather co-wash option.
2. Using Too Hot Water
We know how tempting it is to turn up the heat when it’s time to shower (especially when the snow hits!), but try to resist using a high water temperature when it’s time to wash your curls. Believe it or not, hot water can be really damaging and drying to your hair. Lukewarm water is a much better alternative for locking in moisture.
3. Using the Wrong Shampoo
Every season, you should consider your styling routine to reflect the weather outside. Your shampoo is no different. There’s a reason our Ultra-Nourishing Cleansing Oil Shampoo is a Glamour award winner and a fan favorite!
A lot of us take advantage of the lack of humidity in the cooler months (read: frizz) by breaking out our favorite heat styling tools. While those blowouts look great, don’t forget to use a heat protectant like our Mongongo Oil Multi-Use Curl Treatment to speed up drying time and keep curls protected.
5. Not Tackling Your Frizz
Cold temps tend to make the air dryer, causing your hair to pick up extra electrical charges. This is why you’ll notice more frizz and static during the winter. While we can’t do much about the weather, we can cut down on frizz. Grab our Advanced Climate Control collection for its frizz-fighting Nano Technology. This technology helps to seal your hair’s cuticles keeping moisture in and frizz and humidity out.
