Ouidad, the undisputed Queen of Curls, is also the undisputed educator when it comes to teaching hair stylists how to cut and care for curly haired clients.
On October 16th and 17th, 12 stylists from several of Ouidad's affiliate salons from the east (Massachusetts, New Jersey) to the south (North Carolina) to the Mid-West (Texas) came to New York City to train with the best, and most left with a certification in Ouidad's trademarked "Carving & Slicing(tm)" technique.
Making The Grade
But not everyone passed. Ouidad is true to her high standards of hair care, and if a stylist did not demonstrate understanding and proficiency at the end of the 48 hours, he or she was not awarded the coveted Ouidad certification. "I have never learned so much in such a small amount of time," says Nancy Trentacoste of Atelier Salon in Basking Ridge, NJ. "What I especially liked was Ouidad's method of teaching. Ouidad and her team gave us the information in an extremely instructive way then let us run with it. They observed what we had caught on to and where we needed help. I can't wait to get back to my salon and start caring for those curly haired clients who are just at a loss with their hair."

Day one, and the first of three models, each with a different curl type, is assigned to every stylist by a Ouidad Curl Expert

Training began with an introduction to and history of the Ouidad Salon and product line. The stylists then observed Ouidad's demonstration of the "Carving & Slicing(tm)" cutting technique. After watching the step-by-step process each stylist was assigned three models on which to perform the "Carving & Slicing(tm)" methods. Models' curls ran the gamut from loose to kinky and everything in between. As the stylists cut, Ouidad and her team of Curl Educators are on hand to guide and teach. On the second day of training, Ouidad gives another tutorial and stylists work on two more models.

By day 2, stylists work more independently with their final hair models, but always under the watchful eye of Ouidad and her staff

Certified Stylists
All in all, each stylist walks away with intense training and a new understanding of curls. Stylists who proudly passed the zealous training are now certified to cut in the "Carving & Slicing(tm)" method back home at their own salons, in essence keeping curls looking good throughout the country.
