I remember when I was a kid, there was so few options for shampoo. The biggest variety was children's or adult – maybe with a few scent options. Now there is shampoo for everything. There is even shampoo that is not shampoo… go figure… I've always heard that Ouidad was great for naturally curly hair. But I have to be honest- isn't it a little scary buying shampoo that is more than five bucks if you have no idea if it will really work for your hair? If you don't know, Ouidad is known as the Queen of Curl. Quite the impressive title! The Ouidad website also has a curl profiler, to identify your hair type with the right products. Cool. This shampoo and conditioner combination are part of a balancing line. They provided just what thick, unruly curls need – moisture. One thing I have learned, whether it is skin care or hair care – using things in their original collections always excels the products to their maximum potential. The shampoo itself was light and foamed subtly, with a soft baby powder scent. The conditioner (balancing rinse) was amazing as a detangler and helped control my frizz. Very few times am I able to wash and let dry naturally for perfect curls but after one shower with these, I could. My hair was super soft afterwards and didn't feel oily or dried out. The brand is now accessible outside of their own brand salons and website – through Sephora and HSN (home shopping network) These two retail for $15/each which is not bad considering they sell brands that cost this much at places like Target now. If it works for you, then it is totally worth it. Never tried a “drug store” brand for curls that worked this good. Just sayin'.

We think textured, beachy So-Cal hair like the looks created by curl expert Ouidad backstage at Timo Weiland will be an easy trend to create at home this Spring and Summer. Try a loose updo topped with a sporty backwards baseball cap.

Timo Weiland's signature pops of color, custom prints, and modern interpretations of classic silhouettes speak to their uptown meets downtown approach to design. Ouidad decided to go with a similar free spirited hair look. The look was surfers gone wild. The Timo Weiland fashion house is relaxed, young, and trendy… think Hawaii in the 60s and the 70s. Ouidad went for natural, relaxed styles… loose updos and a few hats. They created a look of urban beauty and glamour, and to do that they used the Ouidad Climate Control Heat and Humidity Gel, Tress Effects Styling Gel and Play Curl Volumizing Foam. "This season you're going to see lots and lots of texture. You're going to see free, loose curls… tight curls… freedom! It's all about expressing yourself and being free", says Ouidad. Stylists used small amounts of Ouidad Climate Control Heat and Humidity Gel, Tress Effects Styling Gel and Play Curl Volumizing Mousse on models before pulling hair into loose, low ponytails and twisting under. Some were finished with oversize, backwards baseball caps while others were twisted into more polished twists.

You're probably already familiar with a traditional French twist, but this look, done by Ouidad for the Timo Weiland show, has a messy, modern spin. The key to keeping this look fresh: Ditch the brushes and use your fingers to style the look. Here's what to do: Step 1: Apply a heat-protectant gel, like Ouidad Climate Control Heat and Humidity Gel, $13, and do a rough blow dry on hair to bring out your natural texture. Step 2: Using your fingers, create a side part in your hair and pull hair back into a low ponytail. Step 3: Very loosely pull the pony up and twist and pin into that classic French twist shape. Don't worry if strands fall out or it looks messy; that's kind of the point.

It's no secret that hair takes a beating as the temperatures rise. Sun, salt and chlorine are hard to avoid and can leave strands dry and damaged as we approach the fall season. Turn to the Ouidad 12 Minute Deep Treatment to restore and hydrate your locks. In just 12 minutes, your strands will look soft, supple and most of all, hydrated. Originally designed for use in the Ouidad salons to repair hair and prepare it for treatments, the 12 Minute Deep Treatment penetrates the hair cuticle and restores shine. It is packed with 21 amino acids that rebuild the internal molecular layer of the hair and replenish moisture so that curls are instantly soft, healthy and manageable. Effectively penetrates the hair to bond with the cuticle Use every two weeks for six weeks and continuing to use once a month there after

French Twist a la Urban Beach At the Spring 2012 Timo Weiland show, Ouidad, the curly hair expert, opted for laid-back styles, as if everyone had just stepped off of the beach. The looks were natural and relaxed, think Hawaii with an urban undercurrent. But she left the long, flowing waves on the men! For the women, casual meant up and off the neck, like you would do on a windy beach day. To create the look, hair was first styled with Ouidad's Climate Control Hair and Humidity Gel and Shine Glaze Serum, then put up in a tousled French-like twist to give the impression of effortless, windswept hair. See, even "effortless" take a little effort. GQ-tip: The makeup palette is an ideal look for over-40 — sort of a pumped-up neutral, with some sun-kissed bronzing. Note the strong brow.

Meanwhile, Timo Weiland was all about the coif. "Timo wanted something very trendy, Hawaiian-like, but simple," explained chief hair stylist, Ouidad. "The models have different looks; some of them have their hair down in loose waves or with these sleek French twists that were inspired by the '60s and '70s." The line consisted of pieces with digital floral prints in free flowing fabrics. There was everything from rompers to playful accessories such as drawstring hobo bags and snapback hats to crop tops. The menswear featured bright colored pants, printed windbreaker jackets, and comfortable shorts that looked like swimming trunks. The models got their hair done pretty quickly, since the stylists used minimal products. "We just used the climate control heat and humidity gel to protect the girls' hair and then finishing spray," said Ouidad.

Designers Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein may have sent feminine prints and floaty chiffon down the runway during their first Lincoln Center show last night but backstage, Ouidad hairstylists and NARS makeup artists were channeling tomboys. Taking Weiland and Eckstein's inspiration — the artist Basquiat goes on vacation to Hawaii — as direction, Ouidad created hairstyles that were natural, soft, and a bit of a departure from her signature curls. Stylists used small amounts of Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel, Tress Effects Styling Gel, and PlayCurl Volumizing Mousse on models before pulling hair into loose, low ponytails and twisting under. Some were finished with oversize, backwards baseball caps while others were twisted into more polished twists.
