Cascading Curls
Truth be told, corkscrew styles can make you look heavier "if your hair fluffs out more than a few inches beyond your ears," Potempa says. The key is to reduce the weight of the hair with a middle part like Shakira's. The right cut also helps. Ouidad, author of Curl Talk (Three Rivers Press) leaves top layers long so they lie closer to the scalp), then cuts layers below the chin so ringlets mingle.

Embrace Your Curls!

I have been trying to embrace my curls but found it very hard to get a really good cut and look without the frizz until now. Yulia at Las Olas Beauty in Ft. Lauderdale was amazing. She not only gave a great cut, but showed how to Rake and Shake to get the look out of the salon. If you are experiencing frustration with your curls - get a Carve and Slice if you can. The products are amazing and make your curls silky and sexy without the frizz even in Miami Beach!

Ask Ouidad!
Got a question? Ouidad and her team of Curl Experts have the answer!
Curly Q:
I can generally get my hair to look pretty good, except for the area right above my forehead. I''ve had short and long bangs, and no bangs at all, but no matter what I do, this spot either hangs in my eyes or sticks straight up. I already use clips to keep in place until dry. I''ve tried partin gon either side, the middle, or not at all. My face is too square to pull back in a headband all the time. I''m too old for the bangs pulled back look. Suggestions?

A:
With curls bangs never stay in place, and they look out of place when blown out straight. The good news is because your bangs are curly, they can blend into the rest of your hair easily during the growing out process. Have you tried allowing your bangs to blend in with the rest of your hair? The only time bangs look right with curls is when the entire mane is sliced into a curly shag. Just keep in mind that the shortest piece around your face should stretch from the top of your forehead to the chin. This allows length to accommodate shrinkage, provide movement around your face, and compliment your facial structure.
