Find Your Big Night Style - Celebrity Hairstyles, Nov. 2005
Before tressing up, be sure the look you choose is all about you! What girl doesn't love getting glammed up once in a while? Special occasions are the perfect excuse to go all out with your clothes, makeup, and of course, you hair! You want a look that leaves a lasting impression, and a style that reflects your personality. Stars know this all too well, as their lives revolve around Red Carpet appearances. For an up-and-comer, a coif can make or break a night. While the stakes aren't quick as high, you know you still want to look perfect. So before you go stressing, take a moment and think about the things that make you you! Do you always go for glamour? Do you crave attention? Are you innocent? Unique? Outgoing? One you've honed in on your personal style, consult our going-out-guide for a personalized prescription. You'll find an icon to look to for the style you crave, since we've sussed out the perfect looks for every kind of girls. So grab that blow-dryer and get ready to glow!
The Sweetheart: "With this texture, your hair can't be one length," says Ouidad. "It's more of a bend than a curl, so ask your stylist for long layers to allow your wave pattern to perform." For a defined, glam look, Ouidad suggests hot rollers. First, coat hair with a gel and blow hair 70 percent dry. Then alternate between medium-size rollers on the top and bottom of your head and smaller ones in the center.
The Classic Girl: Do you stick to tried-and-true looks that never go out of style? A classic coif like Elisha Cuthbert's shows your sophisticated side. Make it happen: The cut is crucial to achieving this style. Ouidad suggests a classic bob with plenty of layers for movement. After shampooing and conditioning, apply an anti-humidity gel like Ouidad Climate Control through sections of hair. Diffuse-dry and scrunch hair to coax out some natural texture. Smooth bangs with a blower and brush and finish with a spritz of styling mist.
The Party Girl: Do you love to have fun and dance the night away? For party girls like Katie Lohmann, this sexy ‘do will keep you looking good while you're rocking out. Make it happen: Apply a volumizing mousse and set hair in medium-sized rollers. Leave the bangs out and blow them straight before you go under the drier. Pull hair back into a high ponytail at the crown, securing with a gentle tie and smoothing the tail and bangs with a pomade like Ouidad's Clear Control. If you're not naturally curly, use a curling iron around sections of the ponytail to create some loose ringlets.
The Vixen: Do you love to flaunt what you've got? Score Jessica Simpson's sexy mane and you'll reel them in all night. Make it happen. For this style, Ouidad stresses you must use a good holding product so hair doesn't collapse. “I really think Jessica has extensions to make her hair that full,” she says. We don't doubt it. Set hair in large rollers and let dry completely. Brush gently when you remove, then section hair in the center and pull back each side (from the middle of the head to the arch of each eye). Secure at the crown with bobby pins, and tease the crown slightly for fullness.
The Trendsetter: Do you always have friend trying to snag your style? Take a cure from Fergie and land a look that's all you. Make it happen: Apply a heat and humidity lotion and set hair in large rollers. Part hair to the far right using the arch of the eye as you guide. “Very rarely do you see a right part,” Ouidad points out. Brush hair flat to the scalp and behind the left ear. Use a flat, 3-inch clip to hold the hair, then bring the rest into a soft roll and tuck ends under, securing over the clip to hide it. A light hairspray gives your hair some hold, and a mist of glossifying product like Ouidad's Shine get you glowing.
The Glamour Girl: Do you refuse to leave the house without makeup? Sounds like you're a glamour girl. Check out Kristen Bell's look and put your strands in the spotlight! Make it happen: Use a gentle shampoo and conditioner so you don't weight hair down. Apply a light mousse to sections of hair, working from the nape to the front of the head. Diffuse and scrunch hair to bring out the bend, and then use a round brush to create a soft sweep of bangs. Go over hair with a large-barrel curling iron starting 3 inches from the roots. Roll hair over the iron and let set to create soft, flowing waves. Finish with Ouidad Shine for a glowing touch.
The Individual: Do you always stand out with your one-of-a-kind style? Choosing a unique look like Gwen Stefani's will ensure you don't blend into the crowd. Make it happen. For this look, Ouidad suggests applying a styling lotion before blowing hair completely dry. Part hair in the middle and French braid from the part to the ear of each side, keeping the braid small. Next, pull hair back into a low ponytail and use coated hot rollers to set it. After you remove the rollers, pin hair up into a swirl with bobby pins, and mist with a light shine spray.

Who's the best?

About Ouidad...it's the best! Like many of you I've always hated my hair and tried to pull it straight, well not anymore, thank you Ouidad! My favorite products are the Climate Control Gel and the Clear Control Pomade, there the best!
Rosalinda, WA
Good Neighbors

Long story short, I have incredibly tight curly frizzy hair, inherited from my mother. She hated her hair and consequently I learned to hate mine too. I spent 48 years of trying everything to get straight hair, and finally succeed once I discovered flat irons. But my neighbor of the past few years is a stylist who is Ouidad certified and she'd been begging me to let her do my hair. So finally about three weeks ago I let her. She used the Climate Control and the Botanical Boost, and also clipped my hair on top. Needless to say I was won over completely. She did it for me again a few days later as I had a wedding to go to out of town. It was very hot (in the 90's) and incredibly humid the whole weekend and whereas before my hair would have looked like Rosanna Rosanna Danna in a matter of minutes, my curls stayed perfectly formed and with no frizz!
I am learning how to do it myself now, and next week she is going to give me the Ouidad special cut for curly hair. I can't wait!

Ask Ouidad!
Got a question? Ouidad and her team of Curl Experts have the answer!
Curly Q:
My question is about the Deep Treatment. I have used it just once and did notice a difference in my hair's softness, but I did not use a hood style dryer or hair bonnet as I do not have access to either. Instead I placed the recommended plastic cap around my head and used a hand held blow dryer for 20 minutes. Will this technique of applying the Deep Treatment be just as effective or am I wasting time and money? Do you have a better technique to suggest as an alternative?
Also, I've been using the Climate Control Gel. Although I really like it, my hair is still feeling somewhat crunchy. What do you suggest to keep my curls defined but give them softness?
|
A:
Using a hand-held blow dryer also works well. The only difference from a hood dryer is that while you are heating one side of the head, the other is still cold. So it just takes longer to heat the hair thoroughly. Also, you can go into a steam room for 20 minutes if you have access to one at a gym. Some clients have told me that while they run on their treadmill in the privacy of their own home, they do the Deep Treatment. Just apply the Deep Treatment and cover your hair with the plastic cap and run. If you can find a cheap heating cap at a pharmacy, that works as well.
As far as crunchiness from the Climate Control Gel, I would finish your hair with a dollop of Clear Control. Place it in the palm of your hands and run your hands over your hair in a ponytail effect all the way to the ends. That will define your curls and give you the softness and shine you seek. Good luck.
