Ouidad and her husband, Peter, started Curls for a Cure after she was diagnosed with and beat breast cancer, the same disease that took her mother’s life. After matching your donations to reach over $475,000, we decided that we wanted to go even bigger, and this year we’re supporting Curls for a Cure like never before.

Curls for a Cure Pink Curl Extension

Show your support by purchasing the limited edition Pink Curl Extension – 100% of the purchase price will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF). Additionally, for every pink curl selfie shared on Instagram with #CurlsForACure, we’ll donate an additional $1, up to $10,000 (you’ll even be entered to win a custom Ouidad regimen for your curl type!).

KRLY® Kids

Breast cancer awareness shouldn’t be limited to just one month out of an entire year – according to BCRF, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 2 minutes in the US. To further contribute to the research and funding that can ultimately lead to finding a cure, we’ll be donating $1 from every purchase of a KRLY Kids product to BCRF year-round.

Partnership with

The leading online destination for all things textured hair,, has joined with Ouidad in the fight to find a cure. Together, we’ve created an online Curls for a Cure destination where we can all share our experiences and support for one another, as breast cancer has impacted all of us in some way. To kick-off the program, NaturallyCurly hosted a Google Hangout with their Co-Founder Michelle Breyer and Ouidad, both cancer survivors. They shared their stories, as well as encouragement for others who may be going through such a trying time. If you were unable to tune in live, watch the hangout below:

We hope you’ll join us in this fight!

So Long, Summer… Hello, Hair Recovery!

We all love the summer… the vacations, the long weekends, the fun. Unfortunately, summer doesn’t always love our curls. The combination of sun, ocean and chlorine can do quite a number on curls, leading to dull, brittle or frizzy hair. With the summer wrapping up, here are a few things you can do to repair summer hair damage and get your curls back in top form for fall.

Post-Summer Hair Recovery Tips
  • Get a haircut. It sounds scary, but it doesn’t have to be! Simply ask your stylist for a “micro-trim.” Dusting the ends will remove the dry brittleness, helping you to avoid breakage and excess shedding. (If you’re in the market for a new stylist, look at our Flagship & Certified Salons!)

  • Regularly deep treat your hair. An intensive deep treatment is the main solution for restoring the necessary moisture to your curls. You can deep treat at home using our 12 Minute Deep Treatment. If you don’t have a heated cap or dryer, you can still heat-activate using conditioning tips from our stylists.

What exciting things did you do this summer, and how are you reviving your curls?

Conditioning Your Curls: Tips from Our Stylists

The key to maintaining healthy curls is ensuring that they’re fed and moisturized. Curls are fragile and constantly lose moisture and nutrients, which is why feeding your hair is the foundation for maintaining healthy, managed and beautiful curls.

How does feeding your curls fit into your curly hair routine? Stylists from the Ouidad NYC Flagship Salon share a few insider tips!

Why It’s Important to Feed Your Curls

“Curly hair is naturally drier. I always tell my clients, ‘It’s like your skin. If it’s not hydrated, it doesn’t look or feel right.” – Melissa, Senior Stylist

Deep Conditioning Your Curls at Home

A staple for any Ouidad curl type regimen is the 12 Minute Deep Treatment. The unique blend of proteins and 21 Amino Acids in Deep Treatment relink the molecular layer within the hair cuticle, giving it manageability and strength.

“Who wants to just sit around at home in the summer? If you don’t have time to deep treat at home, apply the deep treatment to your hair, put on a plastic cap and a hat, then leave it in while you’re in the sun at the beach.” – Jason, Stylist & Certified Educator, sharing a helpful tip from Ouidad herself

“If you don’t have a hooded dryer, put on a hot towel. You can also style with it so that it’s sitting in your hair and working for a whole day.” – Melissa, Senior Stylist

Applying Leave-in Conditioners to Your Curls

A leave-in conditioner is another crucial step. The Moisture Lock Leave-in Conditioner helps seal the cuticle layer of your curls to add extra hydration while preventing frizz.

For people with thick, dehydrated hair, it’s best to use Moisture Lock after using a conditioning rinse that will help to detangle curls. For regular curls that are not significantly dry, Moisture Lock can also be used in place of your regular conditioner.

“For tighter curls, it’s also great for adding moisture before drying hair.” – Vincent, Senior Stylist
