Each unique curl requires special attention!

Here are the basics for getting your most gorgeous kinks, waves or ringlets.

If You’re Wavy

Soft, less defined waves approximately 2” wide.  Hair becomes curlier with length.

  • Use lighter styling products such as a mousse, like the PlayCurl Volumizing Foam and Volumizing Styling Spray, to help give curls volume without weighing them down.
  • For straighter hair, increase texture with Wave Create Sea Spray and Texture Taffy.
  • Use Curl Clips on the crown of your head to lift top curls. To properly position curls, gently slide clip along scalp and keep it as close to root as possible. Lift the hair evenly across the crown, working from front to back.
  • Let hair air dry or use a hair dryer on low heat with a diffuser.

If You’re Curly

“Classic” curls approximately 1 to 1-1/2″ wide with good definition, bounce and lots of volume.

  • Use styling gels that offer curl definition, moisturization, and frizz control. Curl Quencher or Climate Control are great choices.
  • Let hair air dry or use a hair dryer on low heat with a diffuser.
  • Do not use a brush or comb on dry curls which can cause the hair to expand and contribute to frizz.
  • Use Curl Clips on the crown of your head to lift top curls. To properly position curls, gently slide clip along scalp and keep it as close to root as possible. Lift the hair evenly across the crown, working from front to back.
  • To create soft curls once they are dry, rub a little serum or oil into the palm of your hands and smooth over your hair gently. This will add shine and tame any stray flyaways.
  • Prevent tangles and frizz by sleeping on a satin pillowcase or using a satin cap.

If You’re Tight Curly

A mixture of 1/2″ to 1″ wide curls throughout the hair.  Tends to be full and densely packed, yet often fine in texture.

  • A weekly deep treatment regimen with Curl Recovery Melt-Down Extreme Repair Mask is essential to maintain the hair’s health and repair hair’s lipid barrier.
  • Do not use a brush or comb on your dry curls which will cause the hair to expand and contribute to frizz.
  • Detangle with a conditioner in your hair and use a wide tooth comb or the Double Detangler.
  • Let air dry or gently diffuse on lowest setting of your blow dryer.
  • Prior to styling, apply a leave-in conditioner and comb through with a wide tooth comb or fingers to create a moisture foundation.
  • To enhance curls once they are dry, rub a little pomade or Mongongo Oil into the palm of your hands and smooth over your hair gently. This will add shine and tame any stray flyaways.
  • Prevent tangles by sleeping on a satin pillowcase

If You’re Kinky

Tiny ringlets of mostly “Z” shaped hair when stretched. The “Z” pattern can cause it to shrink up to 75% of the actual hair length.

  • Prior to styling, apply a leave-in conditioner or primer like Curl Recovery Whipped Curls and comb through with a wide tooth comb or fingers to create a moisture foundation.
  • Pairing a leave-in conditioner and anti-frizz styling gel like Climate Control together is a good combo to tame tighter curls and smooth flyaways.
  • The delicate strand of kinky hair needs extra moisture. A weekly deep treatment like Curl Recovery Melt-Down Repair Mask is essential in your regiment to maintain hair’s health and shine.
  • Let air dry or gently diffuse on lowest setting of your blow dryer.
