Morgan’s Favorite Curls at the 2012 BET Awards

Thursday, 5 July 2012 by Morgan

Ouidad Creative Director, Morgan, loved all of the texture at this year’s BET Awards!

I don’t even know where to start, for the first time I can say that the percentage of textured curls was at a astonishing high! We are not just talking curls…we are talking all natural textured curls! Rocking what we have naturally is the trend of the summer.

Kick the straighteners and relaxers to the curb and opt for controlled curls by just the use of styling products.

Below are a few that stood out at the BET 2012 Music Awards:

Long and loving it! Elle rocked her naturally tight curls with a lot of confidence. I loved her all-natural cascading look, spiced up with a side swept accent to give it some edge! The style is a simple gel application while curls are still wet, for a soft finish. I would suggest our Curl Quencher Moisturizing Gel.

There is nothing better then a head of tousled, voluminous, sexy curls. Her style wasn’t the only thing on point that night, so were her blonde tresses! It’s a struggle getting the right tone on someone who is not a natural blonde. It can either wash you out, or look artificial. I thought that Beyonce looked exceptionally beautiful with her sexy, loose blonde locks.

When hair gets to the length of Chante’s, most people lose that voluminous look due to the length and weight of the curl. A great solution for that is hair extensions. This allows you to maintain length while adding fullness and thickness. Most extension companies caught onto the buzz and have started making textured/curly extensions. I just added 2 bundles (50 extensions) to my hair! I have the length, I just wanted that full/thick look.

I love the look of a shoulder length, tousled bob with bangs. It looks like Marsha styled her natural hair curly and added a series of different curling iron curls to achieve a little definition. I think this is a great way to take your hair from day to night. Forget washing and restyling, use 1-2 different size curling iron rods to add some polish to your style within minutes!

Changing your curl pattern by adding a few different  textures, changes the whole dynamic giving you a new fresh look…in minutes!

Chaka Khan via Mediaalien.com

What happened to the BIG hair Chaka? Chaka Khan went for a more tamed look with her curls set on the longer cascading side.

She did have a bit of fun with her “bright fuchsia” accent curls. This latest trend is a great way to add an edgy pop to any hairstyle.

If you don’t want to commit to something permanent, colored extensions are the way to go. You can temporarily add any shade of color, and what’s great about these extensions……they come in all textures of “curls”. FUN!

I love Ouidad products. The curly hair photos are inspirational. However, some of the celebrities in the blogs are wearing natural hair weaves. No disrespect intended, but I’d rather read interviews from celebrities about their natural hair, not images of manufactured curls.

Hi Shareese, thank you for the feedback! We are all about curly hair and the diversity of styles that it allows people to achieve. Often at awards shows, celebrities will do something extra to achieve an exquisite or unique look – and these may involve weaves or styling tools. Day to day we cover natural curl and want to show people how to embrace their natural texture, but we also like to cover and show curl looks at big event like the BET awards as inspiration and ways to accentuate what women may have.
