What’s In a Ouidad Bottle?

Monday, 11 May 2009 by Peter, Co-Founder, Ouidad

What’s in Ouidad’s bottle? Chances are, when you think of what goes into a bottle of hair products, you think of the liquid that pours from the spout or sprays from the nozzle.

For Ouidad, there is so much more in the bottle than the solution itself.  When she begins to formulate a new product for curly hair, it doesn’t matter if it ultimately becomes a lotion, a gel, foam, or a spray.  She first begins by identifying the needs of our clients’ curls.  Then the creative juices start flowing.  How can a tried and true ingredient be used in a new way, how can new ingredients and manufacturing technologies be employed to solve the puzzle?  What delivery system will be used to make the solution easy to apply?

For the many years I spent working at the front desk of our first salon and answering phones and emails in our customer service center, I have been asked the same question over and over.  What makes Ouidad’s products different? I would talk about how advanced preservative technologies keep the active ingredients viable until the moment of use.  I’d talk about the quality of our ingredients.  After all, an ingredient can go by one name, but be available in several grades or concentrations.  Still, prospective clients would challenge me to explain why they saw the same ingredient listed on another bottle.

I have been involved in the approval process of our formulas since the inception of our business, but I do not approve the formulas.  Ouidad does.

I took an art class once.  We were all doing charcoal drawings of the same model.  Each student had a different perspective and technique.  And that’s the point.  It is Ouidad’s personal and professional experience, and her perspective on curly hair, that makes her an expert product formulator.  In each bottle of Ouidad products, you get Ouidad’s 25+ years of knowledge.  Our salon is her proving ground.

There’s something else that’s in the bottle too; free advice, tips and education.  Ouidad has continuously staffed a call center of trained Curl Consultants since 1989.  What other hair company makes it as easy to simply pick up the phone, or blast off an email to get answers to your questions about your curly hair, our product formulas, how to best apply a gel and how much to use, etc. Ouidad pioneered the highest level of customer service in the hair care industry.

Ouidad Curl Consultants are available to take calls during usual business hours, Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 5:00 eastern time.

Your products are the only ones that work on my hair–so it does matter what’s in the bottle! I cannot live without Climate Gontrol!

I love your products. I just think it’s time ot re-vamp the design and look of the bottles. They look a little dated. Something more elegant maybe?

I’d also like to see your product sold in stores. I would buy tons of it if I didn’t have to pay shipping and could find it locally!

I have heard so much that Sodium Laureth Sulfate & Ammonium Laureth Sulfate strip all natural oils and seriously dry out curly hair and to avoid them at all costs…why are they the first ingredients in all of your shampoos?

Sodium Laureth Sulfate & Ammonium Laureth Sulfate are cleansing agents and when used with other ingredients they will not dry out your curly hair.
