What is your favorite product? Why is this product your favorite? What is your favorite way of utilizing this product on your clients?
My favorite product is Styling Mist. This is my "go-to" product. Not only does it keep the curls in place, but it's a quick way to speed up diffusing time. When brushed open, it leaves the hair shiny with no residue or tacky feeling. It's also perfect for rainy days.
Who/What inspires you?
Music inspires me, especially the 1950’s. I got a James Dean and Veronica Lake tattoo because they are my hair icons. I feel that era is timeless and still to this day we replicate those styles.
How would you describe your own personal style?
Classic with a little edge – bowties and tattoos.
Looking back, what is your all-time favorite trend?
Veronica Lake's sultry, deep side part with soft waves covering one eye.
What’s your favorite current celebrity hairstyle?
Julianne Hough’s short textured bob.
What do you see being the next biggest trend?
For me, the biggest trend for 2014 is embracing natural texture. In the New York Flagship Salon, we have had a lot of women "in transitioning" who are embracing their natural curls, coils, and waves after years of heat styling, straightening or abuse from chemicals. We have women looking to Ouidad as a haircare line to ease back into a more natural haircare regime.
Why do you think you decided to become a hair stylist?
My grandfather was a barber in my hometown of Philadelphia, it's in my blood.
What are some hair styling "don'ts"?
Going to bed with your hair wet. It creates knots and breakage by hair snatching on pillowcases and/or sheets.
